Actually, I already do. I have been a member of Yahoo! Music (music.yahoo.com) for a few years and have to say it’s the best $12/month I have ever spent. I’m legally downloading/transferring songs to my portable player. It’s a great value and concept.

EDIT: Jun 8, 2009 – Since Yahoo! Music was bought by Rhapsody, for the past year I have been a member of Napster (www.napster.com) and like it the best out of all music subscription services I’ve tried.

On the other hand, I would never pay a cent to iTunes (www.apple.com/itunes) for downloading music. I think their concept of 99 cents per song is idiotic – it almost reminds me of when cassette singles were $3 and albums were $12. Why not just pay the extra money to get the album? So what if you don’t like some of the songs on the album; you still get more for your money.

1999 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young release “Looking Forward”, their first album together in 11 years and only their third studio recording ever.

1990 Neil Young’s fourth annual Bridge School Benefit Concert in Northern California features Elvis Costello, Steve Miller, Jackson Browne, and Edie Brickell.

1982 Clash frontman Joe Strummer disappears just as the band’s Know Your Rights tour is about to begin. It turns out to be a publicity stunt.

1981 Queen and David Bowie record “Under Pressure” in Montreux, Switzerland. Years later, it becomes the basis for Vanilla Ice’s career.

1980 Jefferson Starship’s Paul Kantner suffers a brain hemorrhage in the studio. After 15 days in a Los Angeles hospital he is declared fit to return to work.

1976 Chicago gets a gold record for “If You Leave Me Now”.

1975 Elton John closes his sold-out U.S. tour with a second night at Dodger Stadium before 55,000 fans. His set includes The Beatles’ “Let It Be”. At one point, the rocker and sports nut removes his overalls to reveal a sequined Dodger uniform. Elton was the first rock and roller to perform at Dodger Stadium since The Beatles in 1966.

1968 Johnny Rivers headlines the San Francisco International Pop Festival. Jose Feliciano, Iron Butterfly, Eric Burdon & the Animals, Deep Purple, and Canned Heat round out the bill for two days of shows at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in suburban Pleasanton, California.

1967 Manfred Mann begin recording an obscure Bob Dylan song, “The Mighty Quinn”. The band will complete it in sessions in November and December.

1965 The Beatles are made Members of the British Empire in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace presided over by Queen Elizabeth.

1964 The Beatles record “Honey Don’t” with Ringo Starr singing lead. They nail it in five takes. They also cut “What You’re Doing” as well as silly versions of Christmas carols for their annual fan club holiday single.
